Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 2025
This site uses a two-tier analytics approach. An anonymous page-visit counter runs without consent (no cookies, no IP storage, no personal data). Full event tracking (download clicks, navigation, etc.) requires your explicit consent via the cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website is the operator of Fancy Mumble. For contact details and the full legal imprint see privacy.magical.rocks.
2. What we collect and why
We collect anonymised usage data through PostHog (a third-party analytics service) to understand how visitors interact with this site and to improve it over time. Collection happens in two tiers:
Always active (no consent required): an anonymous page-visit count is recorded on every visit. No cookies are set, no data is written to your device, and your IP address is never stored. This is not personal data processing under GDPR and is exempt from the ePrivacy Directive.
With your consent only: the following additional events are tracked:
| Event | Data captured |
|---|---|
| Page view | URL, referrer, browser type, operating system, approximate country (derived from IP - IP itself is not stored) |
| Download button click | Platform (Windows / Linux / Android), button location on page |
| GitHub link click | Which repository link was clicked |
| Navigation click | Link label and target anchor |
| Screenshot view | Which screenshot was opened in the lightbox |
No names, email addresses, or other directly identifying personal data are collected.
3. Legal basis
Anonymous page-view counting involves no personal data and no device storage, so no legal basis under GDPR or the ePrivacy Directive is required.
Full event tracking is based on your freely given, specific, and informed consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You may withdraw consent at any time (see section 7).
4. Cookies
When you accept analytics, PostHog sets cookies in your browser to distinguish sessions
and recognise returning visitors. These cookies are prefixed with ph_
and have a maximum lifetime of 1 year.
If you decline, no cookies are set by this site.
5. Data processor and storage location
Analytics data is processed by PostHog, Inc. acting as a data processor
on our behalf. We use the EU-hosted PostHog endpoint
(eu.i.posthog.com),
meaning all data is stored and processed within the European Union.
PostHog's privacy policy: posthog.com/privacy. A Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is in place with PostHog.
6. Retention
Event data is retained for 1 year by default and is then automatically deleted. Session recordings are not enabled on this site.
7. Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Access - request a copy of the data held about you (Art. 15)
- Rectification - correct inaccurate data (Art. 16)
- Erasure - request deletion of your data (Art. 17)
- Restriction - restrict how we process your data (Art. 18)
- Data portability - receive your data in a machine-readable format (Art. 20)
- Object - object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21)
-
Withdraw consent - you can withdraw your analytics consent at any time
by opening your browser's developer tools, going to Application → Local Storage
for this site, and deleting the
cookie_consentkey, then reloading the page and selecting "Decline".
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address listed on the imprint page.
8. Supervisory authority
If you believe we have not handled your data in accordance with GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Germany the competent authority is the Bundesbeauftragter für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit (BfDI). You may also contact the data protection authority in your country of residence.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our data practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
